Additionally, the representatives of UB encourage Romanians to become well-informed and to vote in order to determine Romania's future based on evidence and certainties regarding the candidates and their electoral offers, rather than on "manipulations and populist promises." "The University of Bucharest firmly reiterates its commitment to Romania's Euro-Atlantic orientation and the democratic values that are intrinsic to the Romanian state and nation. We believe that sanctioning inefficiency in governance and the social inequalities generated must be done within the democratic system and by preserving Romania's Euro-Atlantic orientation," the higher education institution said in a press release sent to AGERPRES on Wednesday. According to the representatives of the university, Romania's Euro-Atlantic orientation, as enshrined in the Constitution, and the fundamental values it expresses are supreme values in the spirit of Romania's democratic traditions. The UB representatives also pointed out that the tragedies and suffering caused by undemocratic, authoritarian, and dictatorial regimes in the 20th century should not be forgotten, nor should the victims of legionary movements and communism. Furthermore, the University of Bucharest firmly rejects "any form of dictatorship" and remains fully committed to the development of a Romanian society based on the Euro-Atlantic values of freedom, pluralism, and the rule of law through its research and educational missions. "We call on political parties to revise their principles for selecting and promoting leaders and candidates in elections, as well as decision-makers in the administration system. To defend democracy and Euro-Atlantic orientation and to avoid authoritarianism, Romania needs competent, democratic, and effective political leaders who understand the problems of the people and society and propose realistic and humanistic solutions, not populist or messianic ones," the press release also shows.
