According to him, RoPay allows the initiation of instant payments directly from one bank account to another, based on technologies such as QR code scanning, deep link, NFC (contactless) or the use of the mobile number as an identifier. The service is available through the mobile banking applications of the participating banks non-stop, offering greater speed and simplifying the initiation and execution of payments. "With the digital transformation, new challenges emerge that must be managed using innovative, efficient and accessible solutions for consumers. Thus, financial services, especially payment services, must continuously evolve, responding to changes and taking advantage of the opportunities brought by new technology. In this context, the development and implementation of the national scheme for initiating instant payments in lei under the RoPay brand, by the national banking community, through the Romanian Association of Banks and Transfond, represents an important achievement. This project, the result of a sustained effort of over three years, positions Romania on the map of European reference initiatives in the field of retail payments", mentioned Leonardo Badea. He emphasised that the RoPay project was developed based on good European practices and models, ensuring standardized data interaction and a level of security comparable to similar solutions in other European countries. According to him, the National Bank of Romania promotes and monitors the proper functioning of payment systems to ensure financial stability. At the same time, the NBR constantly supports initiatives that contribute to the development of the national retail payments market, responding to national needs and European aspirations. "Mobile applications already integrate financial assistants based on artificial intelligence, which can analyze consumption habits, suggest optimizations of payment plans or automate recurring payments. At the same time, for banks, the use of advanced technologies in the analysis of large volumes of data changes the way fraud is detected, increasing the security of transactions for consumers and companies," Leonardo Badea added. He emphasised that, in recent years, we have witnessed a profound and accelerated transformation of the relationship between financial service providers and customers, a change that is felt in all segments of the financial market. "Today, mobile phones represent more than just communication devices and have become true financial hubs, always at hand and easy to use. For most users, they are the first option, bringing added comfort and added efficiency. This global phenomenon has determined significant benefits for the market as a whole and for each category of participants, leading to increased financial inclusion, increased opportunities for companies and, last but not least, to increased efficiency and a favorable environment for business growth and development," the NBR deputy governor also said. RoPay represents an important step in the modernisation and efficiency of payment services in Romania, and the launch of this service represents an opportunity to develop new ways of collaboration and to explore together the benefits and perspectives offered by the new service, claim the NBR representatives.
