On this occasion, the AEP leadership presented the good practices in electoral matters developed by Romania, showing that all activities for the organization of the presidential elections are on schedule and have been carried out according to the calendar approved by the Government. At the same time, the AEP president said that the visit of international observers contributes to facilitating experience exchange at international level and to promoting democratic values and principles, mentioning that these will be the basis for the drafting of a future Electoral Code, with the help of European and international experts in electoral matters. "Democracy is based, first and foremost, on the trust of citizens in electoral processes, and this trust can only be gained by organizing free and fair elections. The mission of the Permanent Electoral Authority is to organize the elections in the best conditions, so that voters can be sure that the Romanian electoral system is safe, fair and transparent, in accordance with the requirements of European and international standards in this field," the AEP president, Toni Grebla, was quoted as saying in the press release. Among the approximately 90 participants in the Election Observation Program of the Romanian presidential elections, organized by the Permanent Electoral Authority from November 22 to 25, there are other international partner organizations which, alongside AEP, promote democratic values around the world, such as IFES Europe (International Foundation for Electoral Systems) and Swiss Democracy Foundation, the cited source specifies. The purpose of the international election observers' visit is to facilitate the exchange of experience with specialists from counterpart institutions, as well as with representatives of international organizations working in the electoral field, to promote the good practices in electoral matters developed by Romania and to ensure the exchange of experience at international level. The international observers accredited to monitor the presidential elections have shown their interest in the national normative framework that regulates the elections for the Romanian president, as well as in the organization of the electoral process in Romania and the conduct of the elections from the perspective of the practices and solutions implemented to ensure cyber security and the challenges that may arise in the online environment during the electoral period, the AEP press release further mentions.
