Lee Amos was jailed for at least 32 years in 2009 after being convicted over the drive-by murder of Tyrone Gilbert. A Prison Service spokesman told 'As with all deaths in prison, this will be investigated by the Prisons and Probation Ombudsman.' Amos and his colleague, Colin Joyce, were the heads of a Manchester gang which was blamed for a string of killings dating back two decades. The violence culminated in two deadly drive by shootings - one at a funeral wake - which killed Ucal Chin, 24, and Tyrone Gilbert, 23, and left another man badly injured. Both killings took place whilst Amos and Joyce were on parole. During the 2009 sentencing, Detective Chief Inspector Stephen Eckersley, of Greater Manchester Police, said: 'This is by far the biggest trial of gang members we have ever run and the implications for the city are immense. 'The men who led this gang were prepared to use deadly violence to enforce their will and settle scores.' Amos and 10 other members of the Gooch Gang, who had brought bloodthirsty organised crime to Manchester, were given sentences totalling more than 200 years. They were recalled to prison for breaking their licences in late 2007. Between then and 2009, police said, there was a 92 per cent reduction in gang-related shootings in the city. At around 6.45pm on June 15, Mr Chin was driving in south Manchester when a silver Audi pulled up alongside. The rear passenger window was wound down and his car was blasted with seven shots from a pistol. The Gooch Gang knew there would be a funeral for Mr Chin followed by a wake attended by a large number of their rivals - and set out to kill as many as possible. Narada Williams sent one gang member out to buy 'riding gear' - dark clothing, bullet-proof vests, leather golf gloves and balaclavas. The wake was held at Mr Chin's family home in Longsight on July 27. Shortly before midnight, the Gooch Gang drove by in three cars. The gathering of around 80 mourners were sprayed with gunfire and Tyrone Gilbert was killed by a bullet in the chest. Another man was hit in the leg but survived.
