Bucharest Christmas Market opens along with city's festive lighting
The Christmas market in the Constitution Square opened on Friday, along with the city's festive lighting also on.
"We are going through some complicated moments politically, but it was mandatory to do this for the children. They expected us to respect the date we announced, also for the foreign tourists who have already gotten used to coming to the Bucharest Christmas Market", said the general mayor of Bucharest, Nicusor Dan.
He stated that this year's edition of the Christmas Market is similar to the one in 2023, being completed with a day dedicated to children with special needs.
"Last year we had 1.3 million visitors, of whom 30% were foreign tourists. It is also very important that we will have a day called 'Silent day' for children with special needs, in which we turn off the lights and sound installations that would could disturb them, depending on the disability they have", said the general mayor.
The Christmas market in Constitution Square will be open until December 26, including.
"As you can see, there is a carousel, two little trains, a panoramic wheel, a 30-meter-high tree, Santa's House. Until December 14, when Santa Claus arrives, his elves will be here and receive children's letters. For the artistic program we have two areas, one with traditional music, as well as a DJ area for the younger audience more and more tourists, visitors are coming", explained the director of the Center for Creation, Art and Tradition - CREART, Claudia Popa.
