Over 50 migrants caught at border taken into custody by Arad authorities
According to a press release sent on Friday by the General Inspectorate for Immigration, police officers from the Foreigners' Accommodation Centre for Public Custody in Arad took into public custody 54 foreigners in October, until the completion of the procedures for their escorted removal from the national territory.
"Among the foreigners against whom such a measure was taken, 17 are from Nepal, 7 each from India, Syria, and Sri Lanka, 5 from Bangladesh, and the rest are from other countries. They are charged with offenses such as illegal border crossing, attempted illegal border crossing, failure to comply with the return decision, etc.," the release reads.
Public custody is a temporary restriction on the freedom of movement within Romania, imposed on foreigners for the purpose of carrying out all the necessary steps to escort them off the national territory.
Over 50 migrants from various countries, who were caught in October attempting to cross the border illegally or in the process of doing so, have been taken into custody by the authorities in Arad and placed in a special centre, communicate agerpres.ro.
