Romanians' spending for going out in 2022, higher by more than 30% compared to 2021 (survey)
Romanians' spending at restaurants, cafes, pubs or fast food this year could be over 30% higher than in 2021, exceeding 7.5 billion EUR, an absolute record for the food services industry, shows a survey co-financed by hospitality players, launched by the Hospitality Culture Institute.
"The food service market in Romania will exceed all expectations this year, with total sales of over 7.5 billion EUR, an absolute record for this industry. Practically, food service is becoming the most attractive sector for investments, which is also faced with two big problems: poor digitization and lack of staff," said Florin Maxim, founder of the Hospitality Culture Institute.
According to the source, 9% of Romanians who go out in the city spend more than 100 RON/person on a restaurant meal.
"Ever since the first edition of the research, we have been following the evolution of the shopping voucher. If in 2019 only 2% of Romanians spent more than 100 RON for a meal in the city, this year we estimate that the percentage will reach 9%. Another direction that we look carefully at in our survey is represented by the consumption habits of Romanians. For example, we know that during the pandemic, ordering food quickly gained market share. But we see that this year as well, even if the operating restrictions of HoReCa units were eliminated, the food delivery sector kept its supremacy," adds Florin Maxim.
