Average monthly income per household, 7,504 RON in Q4 of 2023, expenses represent 86.8 pct of income

Compared to the fourth quarter of 2022, the total average monthly incomes per household increased by 13.1%, and those per person by 13.3%.

On the other hand, the total average monthly expenses of the population were, in the last quarter of last year, 6,514 RON per household (2,603 RON per person) and represented 86.8% of total income, an increase of 82 RON per household compared to the third quarter of 2023.

Compared to the fourth quarter of the previous year, the total average monthly expenses per household increased by 11.5%, and those per person by 11.6%.

The average monthly earnings were, between October and December 2023, of 6,956 RON per household (2,780 RON per person), up 1.9% compared to the third quarter of 2023, and the income in kind of 548 RON per month per household (219 RON per person), up 16% compared to the third quarter of 2023.

Salaries and other incomes associated with them were 5,012 RON per household per month and formed the most important source of total income (66.8% of total household income, down 2.1 percentage points compared to the third quarter of 2023).

When forming the total incomes of the households, a significant contribution was made by the incomes from social benefits of 1,530 RON per month per household (20.4% in Q4 2023, respectively, 19.2% in Q3 2023 of the total incomes of households), as well as income in kind (7.3% in Q4 2023, respectively, 6.5% in Q3 2023), formed by the value of the income in kind obtained by employees and beneficiaries of social benefits (1.6% in Q4 2023, respectively, 1.5% in Q3 2023) and from the value in lei of agri-food and non-food products consumed from own resources (5.7% in Q4 2023, respectively, 5% in Q3 2023).

By residential environment, the level of the total average monthly income per household in the urban environment, in the fourth quarter of 2023, was 8,274 RON, 1.3 times higher than in the rural area, and 3,575 RON per person, 1.5 times higher than in the rural area.

INS mentions that the residential environment highlights differences between the level of total average monthly expenses. In the urban environment, the average monthly expenses per household were 7,096 RON, 1.2 times higher than in the rural environment. Thus, a person from the urban environment spent, on average, 3,066 RON per month, 1.5 times more than a person from the rural environment.
