Sampling centers for Covid suspects set up with several Bucharest hospitals
According to a joint decision of the Health Ministry and the Bucharest Public Health Directorate, sampling centers for people with Covid symptoms will open with several hospitals in Bucharest and Ilfov County, in order to shorten the waiting time and ensure speedy access to medical services, the Health Ministry announced on Saturday.
Amid reports about a rapid increase in requests for home testing of people with symptoms of respiratory infection similar to SARS-CoV that caused delays of more than 72 hours in the response of the Bucharest and Ilfov Ambulance Service, Health Minister Alexandru Rafila had several teleconferences on Saturday with the responsible Secretaries of State of the Ministry, the public health directorates, the manager of the Bucharest - Ilfov Ambulance Service and the managers of the Bucharest and Ilfov hospitals, the Ministry informs.
By that time, the call-center of the Bucharest Public Health Directorate had over 2,000 incoming requests for about 6,000 potential Covid patients.
Patients with mild forms of the disease will be referred - if they can travel by their own means of transport - to these sampling centers, after which they will return home and have the test result announced to them by the Public Health Directorate.
For housebound patients or for those who specifically request home testing, the Bucharest and Ilfov Ambulance Service will further provide the sampling and medical care.
20 hospitals in Bucharest and Ilfov County are to accommodate Covid sampling centers beginning with January 23, and another eight will have such centers opened as of January 25.
