"We've had experiences that weren't the happiest. We developed screening programs, but behind them we didn't have the necessary patient treatment capacity. We must try to start off with an integrated approach of all these things. (...) It's time for a new beginning and a new approach to health policy, and indeed the patient must be at the center of our concerns and we must do so responsibly and with empathy," the Minister said at the launch event of the National Cancer Plan which took place at the Cotroceni Presidential Palace. "As long as I am at the Health Ministry I will give priority to this issue, because it's a public health problem, it affects 100,000 people a year in Romania, causing thousands of deaths (...)," Rafila said, but pointed out that there is no "description of the patient's route", nor networks to treat patients with a certain pathology or "correlation with other hospitals in the country". The National Cancer Plan, an initiative aimed at fighting cancer, was launched on Wednesday at the Cotroceni Palace in the presence of President Klaus Iohannis.
