![]() Comentarii Adauga Comentariu _ PM Ciolacu to meet NATO chief, presidents of the European Council, European Parliament during a visit to Brussels![]() PM Ciolacu to meet NATO chief, presidents of the European Council, European Parliament during a visit to BrusselsPrime minister Marcel Ciolacu, accompanied by a government delegation including the minister of foreign affairs, Luminita Odobescu, and the Minister of Defence, Angel Tilvar, will be in Brussels on Monday, on a working visit during which he will have meetings with the new secretary general of NATO, Mark Rutte, the president-elect of the European Council, Antonio Costa, and the president of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola, according to a Government press release. "The meeting I will have (...) with the new NATO secretary general confirms the importance that the North Atlantic Alliance and Mr. Mark Rutte attach to Romania and its defining role in the defence of the Eastern Flank. NATO membership guarantees the security of Romania and Romanian citizens. The Romanian people are deeply attached to the Euro-Atlantic values. Strengthening relations with NATO and with partners in the European Union represents a pillar on which we build our security, defence and development," stated prime minister Ciolacu, quoted in the press release. Following the meeting, the Romanian prime minister and the NATO chief will hold joint press statements, according to the programme announced by the Government. The head of Executive will also have a meeting with Romanian experts and members of the Permanent Delegation of Romania at the headquarters of the North Atlantic Alliance. The visit to Brussels of the delegation led by PM Marcel Ciolacu also takes place against the backdrop of the beginning of a new institutional cycle at European level, following the European Parliament elections held in June, as well as the adoption of the new Strategic Agenda for the period 2024-2029, the same source specifies. In this context, prime minister Ciolacu is to have a meeting with the president of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola, with whom he will discuss, in addition to current issues of European interest, the approach of Romania's perspective of full accession to the Schengen Area. The visit's agenda will also include a meeting with the president-elect of the European Council, Antonio Costa, according to the press release. The Romanian government delegation traveling to Brussels also includes the honorary advisor to the prime minister and vice-president of the European Parliament, Victor Negrescu.
