He added that on Wednesday 43 patients were admitted to COVID ICUs, yet the capacity to take over severe cases still exists. "Today we exceeded 500 cases in intensive care units, but there is still capacity for taking over. (...) As the number of positive cases rises, there is the possibility of the number of ICU cases to continue to rise. (...) If there is further impact on intensive care (...) this is obviously a sign for alarm that there is a serious impact, especially since we have vulnerable unvaccinated persons. Not all forms are caused by Omicron, there are also forms caused by Delta. (...) Our role is to get ready to increase capacity, if need be, continuously," Raed Arafat told a conference at the Prahova County Emergency Situations Inspectorate.
